'There's a tool for that', testing your digital capability

30 August 2022 - The DIF Team

Wouldn't it be great if there was a tool that helped you navigate the online world? Let us introduce you to OSCAR.

In an increasingly digital world being able to communicate online with family and friends, operate ‘smart’ devices, and store data safely and securely are among the important skills needed. So, when it comes to your digital capability, what rating would you give yourself? How well do you think you manage your data and devices? And how digitally literate are you? The answers to these questions – and more – are now within easy reach, thanks to a new  nbn™ Digital Capability Tool.

How the tool helps

While digital capability in Australia continues to improve, the gap between the measured capability of Australians in regional, rural and remote Australia, compared to metropolitan areas, remains wide.

The new Online Skills Check and Resources tool, OSCAR, aims to help by enabling nbn, its partners and industry stakeholders to better understand what’s needed to lift capability, and where that need is most acute.

The test will be to see how the tool can play a role in helping to support the broad range of digital literacy and skills initiatives already active in the community.

In an increasingly digital world, being able to communicate online with family and friends, operate ‘smart’ devices, and store data safely and securely are among the important skills needed.

In response to helping customers better understand their digital skills, and how to advance them, nbn™ has launched a new Digital Capability Tool.

So, what’s your digital persona?

OSCAR is available now to anyone who’d like to confirm where they’re at on their digital journey – and where there may be opportunities for improvement.

The tool has been mindfully designed to acknowledge and celebrate an individual’s current capability while demonstrating a pathway to continuous self-improvement.

Importantly, when it comes to completing the self-assessment, there are no wrong answers.

Once the assessment is complete, you’ll be guided towards a curated Resource Library containing relevant resources designed to help lift your digital skills to the next level – and beyond – should you wish.

And you can take the assessment again whenever you like to track your digital capability progress.

A meet & greet with OSCAR

If you would like to learn more about OSCAR, Rachel Ellis, nbn’s Community and Business Ambassador, will be hosting a live and online interactive session as part of the DIF Hubs program that runs during the Digital Innovation Futures Festival 24 – 7 September. Rachel will take you through the tool, showcase the free resources available and give you some practical uses of it for yourself and/or your business.

This event is part of the nbn lunch 'n learn webinar series, 30 minutes of quick virtual webinars at lunch times covering a wide range of topics including Scams Awareness, Cyber Security, Wi-Fi Optimisation, Business Tips and Digital Legacy.
