Hunter Jay, Ripe Robotics - ‘How I Built a Giant Robot’

BiG Day In DIF is back for 2021! 

The BiG Day In events are aimed at senior secondary school and university students interested in careers in ICT and technology. BiG Day In helps students obtain more information about ICT and technology careers, and hopefully helps them make a better informed decision about their future.  BiG Day In events are held on University campuses around Australia (where possible) to give students an insight into what ‘university life’ might look like.

Students listen to 7-8 presentations throughout the day from organisations/speakers discussing subjects including career paths, career opportunities, the latest developments, the future of technology and much more.  Presenters include WiseTech Global, Adobe, IBM, Microsoft, Westpac, Google, NAB, TechnologyOne, Avanade, Department of Human Services, CBA, Animal Logic, Apple, Defence Force Recruiting, CBA and a host of SME organisations to name just a few.

In the morning tea and lunch breaks, students visit the exhibitor stands to speak to exhibiting organisations, Universities and Colleges to learn about tertiary courses and degrees, work experience, internships, apprenticeships and to see demonstrations of some awesome technology.

'Skills Required to Thrive in the Future' 
- Dr Tim Kitchen, Adobe

Technology changes are disrupting many of the traditional job markets as well as creating whole new areas of work. What skills will be required to thrive in this exciting and ever-changing future? During this presentation, Dr Tim Kitchen from Adobe will share his thoughts on this topic following his over 20 years of experience as an educator and nearly 6 years as Adobe’s Senior Education specialist for Asia Pacific

'All the job titles I’ve had that I never knew existed' 
- Emma Jones, GHD

Emma will share stories and learnings from her eclectic career as jazz musician to coder to her current role as innovation consultant with GHD Digital. Expect to hear about animating helicopters, working for top design agencies in London, teaching, growing startup communities, working in human centered design, world record attempts, and the perks and myths of working globally while living in Wangaratta. 

‘Lifelong Learning: @school thank u, what’s next?’ 
- Ilasha Prabhu, Microsoft

Ilasha is a Technology Strategist at Microsoft. She works with business leaders to help them get the most out of technology in a rapidly changing world. Having taken the first steps of her career into the world of Technology, Ilasha will share how you can get excited about what’s to come after graduating and what you can do to become a lifelong learner?

Hunter Jay is the co-founder and CEO of Ripe Robotics, a startup automating the harvesting of apples, oranges, and stone fruit. Hunter has a varied and technical background, with experience as a software engineer focused on artificial intelligence.
