Digital tools for the Social Economy

In this webinar, researchers from the Centre for Social Swinburne launch two new, publicly accessible digital tools for the social economy: the Social Entrepreneurship Evidence Space (SEE Space) and the Social Enterprise Impact Lab (SEIL) reporting tool.

Virtual launch of the Social Enterprise Impact Lab and Social Entrepreneurship Evidence Space

In this launch webinar, CSI's Distinguished Professor Jo Barraket, alongside key members of the research team, present a walk-through of each tool and are joined by representatives of each funding body for reflections and discussion.

The Social Enterprise Impact Lab (SEIL) project is an action research project and meta-evaluation of evaluation and impact measurement processes used by Australian social enterprises.

SEIL is both a ground-breaking action-research project and an online evaluation tool, created to help build internal evaluation capacity for social changed-focussed organisations to navigate the complexities of social impact evaluation and reporting.

Data Dashboard SEIL platform

The work has produced an advanced online data dashboard prototype, which is freely available for use from the SEIL website. Find out more about the SEIL journey, or apply to use our free, online Data Dashboard SEIL platform.

Recently launched, the SEIL platform is designed to help organisations measure and track their social impact by selecting relevant indicators, entering data, and monitoring outcomes. The SEIL platform also provides social enterprises with the opportunity to grow their own internal capacity in social impact evaluation.

Purpose of SEIL

  • develop insights about what measures matter in advancing social impacts of social enterprise

  • provide practical assistance to small to medium-sized social enterprises by advising them on how to measure impacts and enabling peer learning through the research process

  • grow an evidence base on effective social enterprise evaluation approaches, by producing a library of common impact evaluation indicators

  • develop online tools to support future practice

Partners

SEIL was co-funded by Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation and Family Life, and involved five organisations:

Developed by researchers at CSI Swinburne, alongside a host of other research institution partners - and jointly funded by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, the Department of Jobs, Precincts, and Regions, and Family Life - the tools respond to multiple needs within the social entrepreneurship landscape.
