Photo: Bulaki Wuka Digital Hub Avoca Avoca residents and businesses will be able to enjoy improved access to highspeed internet thanks to a Victorian Government investment into their local community centre, transforming it into a free co-working space and digital hub. Named the Bulaki Wuka Digital Hub, after the term for “giving to the community”, the Hub has been supported with $90,000 from the Victorian Government, funded under the $3.5 million Regional Digital Fund. The need for a digital hub in Avoca became apparent after it was found many residents were travelling to Maryborough, Bendigo or Ballarat for work. Since then, the underutilised space at Avoca Information and Community Centre has been transformed – complete with fast internet, strong mobile phone coverage, charging stations, video conferencing, meeting rooms, dedicated workspaces and training spaces. The Digital Hub will also serve as a space to run digital workshops, improving much-needed digital skills for individuals and businesses in the area. Project Co-Ordinator Zahedur Rahman discusses the Bulaki Wuka redevelopment with Director Assets and Development Services, Douglas Gowans For more information on the Regional Digital Fund and a full list of the projects visit Innovation in the Regions.
